Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter ApS is an international practice, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, founded by Dorte Mandrup in 1999.Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter engages in a wide variety of projects; cultural institutions, buildings for children and youth, sports facilities, education, housing, office buildings and master plans, as well as renovation and alteration of Federally Listed historical buildings. The visionary methods of Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter are based on thorough analysis of every parameter involved in the brief. On this foundation, new materials, constructions and variation of space, are investigated. The office seeks to combine the tactile and poetic experience of space with conceptual clarity and accuracy, in both large scale schemes and in detail.

Perspective concept: how you engage and travel through space – perspective of child for child centers. Adults walk through space, children walk under & around – spaces are created by the childs’ mind.

Structurally: amalgamation of columns, straight & angled. Creating multiple spaces with a subtle natural walkway.

Industrial; Light-weight; Children - human scale & tactility (focused on client, ie. Children); Light (capturing light), Angular, Sculptural (angular), Spatially sculptural, Variation of Space, Sculpture as means of Light, Investigation of new materials, constructions & variation of space; Sensory engagement, Combining tactile and poetic experience of space with conceptual clarity and accuracy; Buildings with their dense, poetic sequence of paths;
The division of the facades in staggered areas of glass and white and reflexes offer a peculiar intensity; A white flow between vertical and horizontal; Behind what one sees lies something else. Simple & effective; Flexibility, light and space and that special something that causes one to want to give it a name, furnish is a play along.

” look out, look in, look through or look at oneself."

The relationship of the central space to the three outdoor spaces and ‘garden room’ are very well conceived in relation to the wandering path of the sun and the need to be able to ‘float’ both visually and functionally between outside and in.

Dead Architect: Karen Clemmensen

Karen Clemmensen née Mundt (31 December 1917, Copenhagen – 21 December 2001) was a Danish architect and designer. The firm she set up with her husband Ebbe designed both traditional and more modern Functionalist buildings. Often inspired by Japanese and American trends, their work includes Kildeskovshallen in Gentofte and LO-skolen in Helsingor.

Cubist appearance with glazed facades and flat roofs; elegant blend of modern and traditional design; Lo-skolen; Kildeskovhallen (swimming pool); Human interaction and engagement with space; Basic; Bio-mimicry - mimic naturalistic environment; At one with the environment; Travelling in the landscape; Intimate; Subtle; Humble; Humanism; Brings outside in, and the inside out; Functionalist style; Socialist.

The 36 Custom Textures: Light to Dark

Chosen Textures
This texture was chosen specifically for Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen as it is lightweight and therefore allows the sculpture to speak independently. It allows the light to pass through without distracting the mind's eye.
This texture was chosen as it is is both courageous and humble - encompassing both the Architect's diversity.
This texture was chosen specifically for Karen Clemenson as it resembles that of camoflague. It is soft, humble, yet still interesting. I feel this best resembles Clemenson herself based on her Architectural work that is often at one with nature.

Electroliquid Aggregation
"Why still speak of the real and the virtual, the material and immaterial? Here these categories are not in opposition, or in some metaphysical disagreement, but more in an electroliquid aggregation, enforcing each other, as in a two part adhesive." - Lars Spuybroak, [1998] Motor Geometry, Architectural Design, Vol 68 No 5/6, p5

As both Architects are Danish - I have chosen my setting for my monument to be based on the Danish Channel.

Cryengine3 Images

This displays the entirety of the electroliquid aggregated monuments. Here you can see the diversity of Mandrup’s ‘Structure as means of light’ and Clemmenson’s ‘At one with the environment’, coming together in a puzzle piece way, and subsequently complementing one and other.

Textures used to commend the Architect’s binary opposing yet suited ideas. While the textures used for Clemmenson are those that blend with the environment, Mandrups are light and simple, facilitating a larger variation of space and structure as mean of light.

This image demonstrates how the joint-monument sits in the setting. It highlights the fusion of being at one with the environment through Clemmenson’s humble attitude, with the courageousness of Mandrup’s combination of the tactile and poetic experiences of space.
