Short Movie Influence & Materiality of Scheme

The materiality of my scheme is heavily influenced by the artist's use of materials. I wanted to create an environment that compliments the desired materials of Kimura; aluminium, steel & oil. I believe graphite (& other industrial 'hard' textures) flatters these components.
Despite being a bold texture, there is an ironic softness to this earthy rock. This idea lies with a deeper understanding of Kimura. As he transforms the aggressive 'bikey' culture, to an instinctual & therapeutic practice. Linking it to the zen-like nature of Jiro Ono's art of Sushi.

As Kimura's work becomes pleasantly contradictory through a deeper understanding, so does Ono's. Jiro Ono is claimed to be the Sushi Master having achieved 3 Michelin stars through his meticulous nature. It seems he is just as much a perfectionist as he is a contemporary artist, & in this way blooms the notion that he may be slanting to the pedantic side. It's through this idea that I link Ono to Industrial Materials such as cement. It's effect is both precise & modern.

Through this I have attempted to merge earthy elements; graphite, marble, mother of pearl, with the striking stark irony of lead, steel & cement. This combination epitomises the fusion of the two artists, which are ultimately & explicably linked through their nature.
